Summer with Kids

There once were two kids out of school
Who were so bored they started to drool
So tired of Wii
They were fighting with me
And begging me for a swim pool.

We went to the YMCA
Where I tried to entice them with play
They stomped someone's toes
And busted a nose
Yes, it was a horrible day.

But summer is soon to be gone
Along with the tear they've been on.
I know that I'll miss them
And often I'll kiss them
But for now I'll be glad when it's done.

(You see, I can't write a rhyming poem without it being silly. It just isn't in me. Using a limerick format doesn't help, either. At least I'd have a chance if I used the sonnet form.)

(Instead, I'll just stick to free verse.)

  1. It wasn't intended as criticism. I'm just as helpless writing free verse.

  2. I know it wasn't criticism. Absolutely no offense taken. I'm just really terrible at writing serious rhyming poetry. So I write stupid things instead.

My daughter thought it was funny. Maybe I should write a load of kid poetry and publish that. ;)

Sorry Shakes sometimes the theme is just to good to pass up and I can't help myself

Two young ones out of school for the summer
were making life on earth a bad trip, a bummer.
Tired of IPod, Xbox and even guitar hero on Wii
they turned insane and wanted to fight with me
their angelic eyes pleaded to be swimmers

My senses hijacked off we went to the YMCA
the infraction whistle blew A LOT that day
in their hellion ways they stomped some toes
holy Moses they even slipped and broke a nose
they both agreed "way cool way to play"

Thank the merciful God summer will soon be gone
today I wish for hours of homework to be done
but when they're in school I know I'll miss 'em
'til then I'll torture them back by kissing them
every chance I get until summer has wholly run.

  4. You guys are so funny, I just have to join in!

There once were two teenagers at home
who tortured their mother by hogging the phone
    with loud music as well
    and as messy as hell
her only revenge to write bad poetry that made people groan!

    he, he. :)

  5. Who knew I'd spark more poetry writing? Cool!

Maybe I should try out something else.
